The Pion, more than 35 years ago designed for a match of the KNWV. It was looking for a seagoing race yacht that went along for longer than the then current yachts. Van de Stadt design company won with the Pion. Since then, a few hundred were built. After a while into oblivion, the Pawn has been back again since a few years.
The core of the success of the Pion is the fact that it is a very good sailing yacht (thanks to Ricus van de Stadt) and that it is a national unity class. Class unity is the key for competitive sailors who immediately want to see who won, without complicated, opaque and costly disability systems.
And it’s great to be touring with the Pion. Whether with the family, couple or alone. Moreover, the Pion is a more than proven seaworthy yacht. In rough weather behaves the Pion smooth and very reliable.
Overall:
Well maintained built by Lewin for the first and only owner. Polyester shipyard built ship with 5 beds, 1.86 headroom in saloon, new cushions in the salon, tiller steering, over the years many innovations which the ship is in good condition, osmosis treatment in 2001 with the hull repainted, all valves replaced with ball valves.
Rigging:
7/8 rig, aluminum mast and boom, mainsail in 1998 with double bindrif and flattening reef, genua1, genua2, workjib, storm jib, two spinnakers, 7 winches if which two are self tailing, mast tilt mechanism, 12.98 meter bridge clearance
Engine:
Bukh DV-10, built in 1978, overhauled in 2007 including engine mounts have been replaced, diesel, 10 hp, direct cooling, with propeller shaft and fixed propeller, tachometer, oil pressure gauge, temperature gauge, fuel gauge
Electra and Navigation:
120 Ah battery and 68 Ah starter batteries each with its own one-stage battery charger, 12 volt system, Contest bulkhead compass B & G analog depth sounder, log, wind, Garmin GPS12, Navatec VHF with ATIS, Sony radio, Autohelm 800 + autopilot, SSB and speed trim meter with malfunction
Gas and Water:
plastic water tanks 2 x 60 liters, foot pump operation, pump toilet, twin 12V cool box, 2 burner stove, heater (not working)
engine overhauled in 2007
